The Veterinary Schools Council (VSC) is delighted to welcome its newest members, the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and the brand-new SRUC School of Veterinary Medicine in Aberdeen.
Led by Dr Heather Bacon OBE, UCLan’s new School of Veterinary Medicine welcomed its first cohort of Students in September 2023. The School is the first of its kind in Lancashire and the second in the North of England, and is one of the first in the world to use a virtual dissection platform.
SRUC’s inaugural Dean of Veterinary Medicine, Prof Caroline Argo, is currently overseeing the launch of the first new veterinary school in Scotland for over 150 years. The School will be welcoming its first cohort of students in Autumn 2024, at which time it will become the third veterinary school operating in Scotland. The course will have a particular focus on rural mixed practice, and the agricultural and food sectors, all of which are essential to supporting Scotland’s natural economy.
New and existing members alike will benefit from the increased collective expertise and experience of an expanded VSC. Members will work together through VSC to demonstrate and further strengthen the vital contribution of veterinary schools to the veterinary sector and wider society.
