The Veterinary Schools Council unequivocally condemns the violence, racism, islamophobia, and general intolerance that has been seen in across the UK in recent days.
VSC’s primary function is to represent and support the collective interests of the UK’s veterinary schools, and it is proud of the diversity both across and within member institutions. VSC is in constant contact with our members and will continue working with them to ensure that students and staff are supported through this worrying time.
VSC is aware that that schools are getting in touch with students to ensure that they know where they can go to access support, how to report discrimination and harassment and whom to contact should they feel unsafe. VSC supports this response from schools and is here to assist them in these efforts.
VSC is aware that many students will currently be undertaking EMS placements. Any student who feels it is unsafe to travel to or remain at an EMS placement should take the necessary steps to ensure their own safety. VSC will work with the relevant stakeholders to ensure that students are not penalised for not attending a placement or leaving early in such circumstances.
VSC is actively monitoring the situation and stands ready to support its members as required.
